Dear South Lake Schools Community:
I hope this update finds everyone healthy and safe, and practicing appropriate social distancing.
South Lake Schools submitted its “Continuity of Learning and COVID-19 Response Plan”. The Continuity of Learning and COVID-19 Response Plan was submitted and will be shared with the school community once it is approved at the county and state levels. The plan is a fluid document and may need to be revised/amended as our teachers continue to engage our students.
South Lake Schools continues to provide meals to our students. South Lake Schools continues to distribute meals to students who are 18 years old and younger through the South Lake Bistro. Meals are distributed every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 AM to noon on the east side of South Lake High School. Each student will receive 2 breakfast bags and 2 lunch bags on Tuesday and 3 breakfast and 3 lunch bags on Thursday.
South Lake Schools teachers continue to provide instruction to students remotely. South Lake Schools teachers and staff continue to work hard to provide instruction through Schoology during the mandatory school closure. Students can connect to Schoology with any computer, tablet, phone, or gaming console (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, etc.) that is connected to the internet. Due to safety concerns, only families without internet access and/or digital devices will receive printed copies of learning materials.
South Lake Schools students will still receive a final grade for the second semester. All students are expected engage in learning activities for the remainder of the school year. Third quarter grades will reflect completion of work prior to the mandatory school closure and fourth quarter grades will reflect engagement from April 13th until the end of the school year. All students will be provided additional opportunities and supports to improve their grades through make-up assignments, exemption of non-essential grades, or completion of additional learning activities. Seniors will also have the opportunity to engage in remote learning to earn a passing grade in mandatory courses required for graduation. More specific information on grades will be shared in a future update.
Lights on in support of South Lake High School seniors. This evening, the lights of the South Lake Schools stadium will be turned on at 8:20 for 20 minutes and 20 seconds. This is to honor the class of 2020 and coincides with the efforts of high schools across Macomb County.
